The first church of the Dominicans built a wooden 1700.g. together with the monastery.
The first pilgrimages to Aglona started because of healing cases. Year 1768 was started stone church and the convent building. It was completed and consecrated year 1780.
Tsarist Russia were forbidden to admit new people to the monastery and so the latter died in the late 19th century convent of the brothers. This is why later Aglona began to serve ordinary priests. The first bishop of Latvian origin - A. Springovičs was consecrated in 1920. He Aglonas church chose the bishops renewed Riga cathedral. The monastery was opened Spiritual Workshop.

1980 Aglonas pope gave the church "Basilica minoris" - "small basilica" title.
