Information
Until 13th century the place where now located Bīriņu palace, lived
in the same locality and Liv called Koldesselli - sand dunes and
mountains. Later the Germans this place was renamed Kolceni.
Current Bīriņu place got the name of the 16th century thanks to
Johan Bīringam (Bīrings Johann von Helmštats), who won the manor
Kolcenes award from the Polish-Lithuanian king that his army
released Ivan (IV) the Terrible troops filled Turaida, Cesis, Limbazu
etc. spot.
Kolceni officially renamed the Bīriņiem independent Latvian state.
