There is widespread Quaternary clay deposits in Latvia. Particularly valuable clay types were found in Daugavpils District Nīcgales surroundings.
These clays are characterized by moderate carbonate level, but high clay fraction content and good distension capacity, so they are used not only bricks but also valuable fillers - the production of expanded clay pebbles.
